The wreck-diving mecca of Scapa Flow has tragically claimed a second diver fatality this year – in the same month that the body of 70-year-old Paul Smith was recovered, a 58-year-old man has died following a dive this morning.

Police Scotland said that the alarm was raised around 10.30am after two men were brought to Houton Pier by boat. One was pronounced dead at the scene, the second was rushed to hospital for treatment.

A spokesperson for the force said: “The death is being treated as unexplained and inquiries are ongoing.”

The tragic news comes just days after Paul Smith was named as the diver who was reported missing on 28 September after a dive on the SMS Markgraf, and whose body was recovered last week.
