The global dive industry is in mourning with the news of the tragic passing of Jared Hires, who died yesterday (3 April) while on a dive in the Plura Cave in Norway.

Few details have been released, but it is understood he suffered a seizure underwater and was brought to the surface by two of his fellow divers. According to Norwegian police, medics tried desperately for over an hour to revive him before he was sadly pronounced dead.

The 33-year-old, who was the General Manager of dive gear manufacturer Dive Rite, had been a stalwart of the industry for many years, following in the footsteps of his father, cave diving legend Lamar Hires.

I had known Jared personally for many, many years, and he was one of the most-friendly, welcoming and open people you could ever wish to meet. Our thoughts go out to his wife Taylor and their two young children, his parents Lamar and Lee Ann, and the rest of his family and friends.
