Adam Hanlon, veteran British underwater photographer and owner of Wetpixel, has been appointed as a Dive Ambassador for the islands of the Bahamas.

Ellison ‘Tommy' Thompson, Deputy Director General of the Bahamas Ministry of Tourism & Aviation (BMOTA), made the announcement, which came in light of Hanlon’s outstanding work in diving, film, underwater photography and his affinity for the Bahamas.

“This is a very special appointment for us,” said Thompson, “it signals our dual belief and commitment to sharing, protecting, preserving and promoting our beautiful environment and natural resources, which for us, are our pristine, crystal-clear waters and rich marine life.”

“Astronauts recently captured the waters of the Bahamas from outer space, and declared it to be the prettiest place on Earth. Now, the world will also know of its astonishing underwater beauty, through Mr Hanlon’s appointment and works,” said Thompson.

In 2020, Adam was also invited by the United Nations to become a Champion in Image Making for the Ocean Decade, 2021-2030.

Adam, who owns two dive shops in Lancaster, and Wetpixel, the world’s largest and most-vibrant underwater imaging community, has historically featured diving in the Bahamas on his media platforms, and at dive shows, workshops and photography expeditions around the world.

The certified PADI diver and 30-year veteran has conducted many memorable dives in the Bahamas, from deep sea wrecks, to exploring its largest underwater cave system, amazing sharks and photographing its colourful and vibrant coral reefs in Bimini, Grand Bahama, Long Island and San Salvador.

“The Bahamas’ beautiful underwater scenery, spectacular reefs, and healthy populations of larger animals, combined with its amazing clear blue waters, offer a unique place to capture and showcase the world’s best underwater. The opportunity, through this appointment, to tell the world and show them through imagery, how exceptional diving is in the Bahamas, is remarkable,” said Hanlon.

As a Bahamas Dive Ambassador, Hanlon will work alongside officials of the BMOTA in promoting the Bahamas’ dive product, at tradeshows and on fam trips.

Hanlon's images and reports have won international competitions and have been published in numerous prestigious publications and used by world-renowned organizations.

UK-based underwater photographers Nick and Caroline Robertson-Brown were also appointed as Dive Ambassadors.
