Sightseers on a dolphin-spotting boat trip in Cardigan Bay got a thrill when a thresher shark estimated to be around five metres long took to the air in front of them.

Guide and photographer Joshua Pedley was on the one-hour trip out of New Quay, Ceredigion, and despite being in shock when the shark suddenly leapt in front of him, he managed to zoom in his camera to where it splashed down, and then caught the epic shot when it jumped again two more times.

Thresher sharks have been spotted in Cardigan Bay before, with a sighting last year, but they are still considered a rare sighting.
