Italian-Swiss record-breaking freediver Andrea Zuccari has gone missing while scuba diving off Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt, and is presumed dead.

According to reports, the 48-year-old freediving expert, who ran the Freediving World centre in the Egyptian resort, was scuba diving using a backplate-and-wing and a scooter to conduct maintenance on connection cables on a dive platform somewhere between 45m-50m, but never returned from the dive.

A search operation was immediately launched, and the day after his disappearance, some of his diving equipment was found, but Zuccari's body is still missing.
