The walrus nicknamed Thor, who went on a jaunt around mainland Europe and the UK at the end of last year, is back in native waters, after being sighted off Iceland.

Thor was last seen briefly in Blyth in Northumberland in early January having disrupted Scarborough's New Year's Eve fireworks display, which was cancelled due to his presence in the harbour.

Prior to showing up in Scarborough, Thor was seen in Hampshire, and before that was spotted in the Netherlands, Dieppe and Brittany.

Thor, who was identified by pale patches on his fore-flippers, was sighted at the end of last week in Breiðdalsvík on the east coast of Iceland. According to Icelandic broadcaster RUV, the animal had settled on a pontoon in the town's harbour on Friday morning.
