Things have been very quiet on the Suunto front for several years. Since the launch of the D5, there has been nothing new coming from Finland in the world of diving, and in that time, the likes of Shearwater and Garmin, not to mention Scubapro and Mares, have gained a strong foothold in the dive computer market, especially wristwatch-style, which was always the domain of Suunto in the past.

It has taken the Finnish computer masters several years, but finally, they have released a wristwatch product which incorporates all of their dive computer knowledge with their GPS sports watch know-how into one feature-rich unit – the Ocean (SRP: £725). This innovation has been recognized with an ISPO Award, a highly regarded honour for excellence in sports technology and design.

The Suunto Ocean can be paired with a Suunto Tank POD for gas-integration

Pairing seamlessly with the Suunto Tank POD before diving allows users to monitor tank pressure, gas consumption, and remaining gas time directly from their wrist, and to enhance safety during dives, the Suunto Ocean offers an extensive selection of customizable audio and vibration alarms.

After the dives, the Suunto Ocean seamlessly transitions into a trustworthy companion for monitoring daily activity, everyday exercise, and more-extreme exploration. The Suunto Ocean offers many outdoor features, including detailed offline maps

The Suunto Ocean monitors steps, calories, heart rate, sleep (including sleep stages), and recovery metrics with heart rate variability analysis for daily activity tracking. Moreover, its premium outdoor features, such as detailed outdoor offline maps that are globally available free of charge, a top-tier GNSS system for precise location tracking, and a barometer for accurate altitude readings and storm alarms, make it the preferred choice for all above-surface adventures.

Suunto Ocean packs a battery life that won’t stop you adventuring – its rechargeable battery delivers up to 60 hours of diving and 50 hours of continuous outdoor GPS tracking on a single charge. In daily mode, Suunto Ocean remains by your side for up to 26 days before needing a recharge, and when it's time to power up, it does so quickly.

The Suunto Ocean is available in various colourways

Setting a new standard in the industry, Suunto introduces a groundbreaking feature with the Suunto Ocean – the ability for users to view their underwater route in their Suunto app logbook after each dive. Additionally, entry and exit points may be marked in the logbook. This route-tracking functionality will be initially launched as a beta version and will continue to be developed further, ensuring users have access to the most-innovative and user-friendly diving experience.

All the logs from dive to sports and everyday will be stored in one same app. For tracking sports and daily activity, the Suunto app offers a dedicated Training Zone where users can monitor their training load, progress, recovery, and sleep analysis. Additionally, users can leverage AI-based Suunto Coaches for personalized training insights. Partner services such as Strava, Training Peaks, and Komoot seamlessly connect users to their community, fostering competition and inspiring new adventures.

Suunto
The Suunto Ocean is the perfect partner for all sorts of activities

The Suunto Ocean is available in three different versions, each compatible with a wide variety of accessory straps for dive, sports and everyday.

Time will tell if this innovative product is enough to get Suunto back to the forefront of dive computer manufacturers. It is certainly extremely well-priced for a full-colour dive computer/multi-function sports watch, especially against the likes of the far-more-expensive Garmin MK3i, and Suunto has a rich heritage in the diving market.
