Scuba Schools International (SSI) continues its mission to raise public awareness on how to protect our oceans with their free conservation-based programme, Blue Oceans.

“Since its release in November 2018, we have received a lot of positive feedback on our Mission Deep Blue programme. The number of students enrolled in the Mission Deep Blue programme is increasing daily. We are proud that so many people live the philosophy and help to make a difference in saving the environment we all care for! Thank you for all your support!” states Guido Waetzig, CEO, SSI International GmbH.

Now SSI needs your help even more!

“Due to licensing issues, we cannot continue using the name Mission Deep Blue. This is unfortunate, as many SSI Training Centres, SSI Professionals, and students around the world use and share this name and philosophy, but we will not lose sight of our goal and will continue to fight for our ocean and its inhabitants,” says Guido.

“SSI is excited to announce the new name of its conservation programme – Blue Oceans. This new name represents SSI’s deep commitment to protecting all of our Blue Oceans around the world.

“We cannot allow that in a few short years the ocean will be home to more garbage than marine life… will have more bleached coral reefs than colourful ones… will have even fewer incredible underwater creatures… will still have to deal with ghost nets and overfishing… will continue to lose sharks, an apex predator, as their numbers dramatically decline due to finning practices.

“Please partner with us to make the new Blue Oceans name well known worldwide so that this programme continues to be successful, helping the ocean become a healthy ecosystem once again. Only the name is changing – the idea and concept behind it are staying the same.”

What is the Blue Oceans programme?

SSI has created a well-researched, holistic programme that is available to both divers and non-divers alike. The Blue Oceans programme teaches participants about issues facing our oceans and how their individual contributions can help.

The Blue Oceans programme encourages SSI Training Centres and their customers to think about environmental challenges, and to take positive actions that benefit the environment.

The programme was initially launched with three main topics. More will be introduced on a regular basis to keep customers informed and engaged. These initial topics were:

  • Coral Reef Loss
  • Ocean Plastic
  • Shark Finning

A fourth topic will be released soon highlighting ‘Marine Protected Areas’. Anyone who has an SSI online account can work through the programme for free and receive a free digital recognition card. More information on this exciting programme can be found at: BlueOceans.world, and on the Blue Oceans Instagram and Facebook social media channels.
