Six members of Shrewsbury-based Severntec Diving embarked on their RAID Advanced Wreck Course last week at NDAC.

After going through the online learning programme of the Advanced Wreck course and a couple of dry sessions at Severntec’s HQ in the heart of Shropshire, it was time for the students to venture into open water.

Although the RAID Advanced Wreck course is a full penetrating speciality course, this session was all about the basics.

An hour in the classroom was a must for a refresh of line-laying skills, and this brought home the importance of good buoyancy/trim profile and S-drills on entering the water, all of which are standard procedures on any RAID programme.

The afternoon progressed, with all students confidently laying line in an open water environment. After following a line and retrieving a line, the consensus was that a great fun day was had by all – and it gave the students lots to think about before their second open water session next week.
