Divers off the coast of Malta and Gozo found themselves enveloped in massive shoals of sea bream last week following storms that lashed the islands damaging fish farms.

Richard King, from Scuba Kings Gozo, captured the amazing sight during a dive off Mgar ix xinni and said: “It was wall-to-wall fish, our trydivers and even our instructors could not believe their eyes.”

Several fish farms around Malta were badly damaged by the severe weather, leading to the escape of hundreds of tonnes of sea bream. Thousands were washed up on shore in Xemxjia, leading to locals risking their lives in the midst of the storm to cash in on this unexpected bounty, but there are still gigantic shoals all around Malta and Gozo.
