Woman Injured in Humpback Whale Encounter

Divers at Lady Elliot Island we treated to a once in a lifetime 12-minute encounter with a juvenile humpback whale.  The rare occurrence happened on a shallow dive at the tiny island which is located at the southern end of the Great Barrier Reef.

Famed for its Manta Rays, Lady Elliot Island has recently had a visit from a great White Shark and now a Humpback whale.

The Whales make an annual migration from their feeding grounds in the Southern Ocean to the warm waters in the north for mating and calving.
