The 36th annual Lower Keys Underwater Music Festival is back, with instrument-wielding divers taking to the water on 11 July at Looe Key Reef.

The annual event, hosted by local radio station US1 104.1, aims to promote coral reef conservation and protection, and sees the station broadcast ocean-themed music which is played underwater through waterproof speakers suspended below dive boats.

Festival director Bill Becker said: “We put music underwater so that the divers and snorkelers and the marine life can enjoy it. At the same time, we have a serious message about preserving the coral reef and lessening our own impacts on it.”
